Liverpool Revive Their Interest In Chelsea Ace

The Reds are still keen on signing Bertrand.

Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand remains a transfer target for Liverpool as they continue their quest to sign a new left-back, according to the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old has been a target for the Reds for over 12 months now and they considered a move for the Englishman in the January transfer window, before he joined Aston Villa on-loan instead.

The Blues meanwhile are unsure about selling a player to a direct rival for the Premier League title and are holding out for a fee in excess of £8m as a result.

Brendan Rodgers has spent plenty of time in search of a new recruit for the left side of defence, with Ben Davies an option before the former Swansea City ace joined Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday instead.

Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno is also being tracked by the Merseysiders, although Rodgers has been put off by £16m the Spanish side are quoting for the 21-year-old.

As a result attention has once again turned to Bertrand, who’s future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain as manager Jose Mourinho is understood not to be a fan of the full-back.

The England international’s chances of first team action have also been limited by the arrival of Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid, whilst at Anfield a new left-back is desperately needed.

Currently Jose Enrique is the only player who naturally operates in the position, although youngster Jon Flanagan did spend significant amounts of time in the role last term.
