Tottenham Star To Leave For AS Roma After One Year At White Hart Lane

Chiriches is considering a switch to Serie A.

Despite having been signed from Steaua Bucharest last summer, Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches is being lined up for a move to AS Roma, according to the Mirror.

The Romania international was part of what is now considered to be an unsuccessful influx of players at White Hart Lane in 2012, with their combined cost being in excess of £100m.

Chiriches cost £7m and although was less disappointing then the more expensive Roberto Soldado (£26m) and Erik Lamela (£30m), the 24-year-old still struggled to hold down a regular first team place.

The Romanian is wanted by Roma as they look to improve their back line ahead of the 2014/15 season, with left-back Ashley Cole having already been acquired from Chelsea on a free transfer.

Whilst Spurs are not averse to selling Chiriches – who is currently being treated for a back problem in London whilst the rest of the squad are in North America – they would want to at least make back what they paid for the defender.

The centre-back made 24 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions last term and is considered by many to be the strongest partner for Jan Vertonghen in the middle of defence ahead of captain Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul.
