Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club will be signing Nice goalkeeper David Ospina as competition for current No.1 Wojciech Szczesny.

The Gunners have long been linked with the Colombia international, who greatly impressed for his nation at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Wenger has been on the lookout for a new ‘keeper ever since Lukasz Fabianski decided to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer when his contract expired to join Swansea City.

With Emiliano Viviano having also returned to Palermo following an unsuccessful loan spell in 2013/14, Szczesny was left as the only recognised stopper at the club.

Yet Wenger has now confirmed the speculation that Ospina will be his third new signing of the summer.

“You know at the start Szczesny will be the No.1, then again we’ll be down to performances and, if Ospina shows that he is better, he will play,” the 64-year-old was quoted by Goal.

The Colombian will join Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy on the list of new arrivals in North London, with the duo joining from FC Barcelona and Newcastle United respectively.

BBC Sport also reports that the club are closing in on a £16m deal for Southampton right-back Calum Chambers, whilst the Mirror says they are finalising the transfer of another Saints star in Morgan Schneiderlin.
