Bayern Munich have emerged as new contenders to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes this summer, according to Fichajes.com.

The Spanish shot-stopper is a free agent ahead of next season after allowing his contract at the Nou Camp to run down, having decided to embark upon a new challenge after spending his entire career so far with his boyhood club.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco has previously been linked with a move for Valdes, while Premier League sides Arsenal and Manchester City have also been mentioned as interested in him, however, he has now emerged as a top target for his old manager Pep Guardiola.

The former Barcelona boss, now set for his second season in charge at the Allianz Arena, knows Valdes well from their time together in Catalunya, with Valdes being a key player in the club’s tremendous success under Guardiola’s four-year stint in charge.

Although Bayern currently have Manuel Neuer as their number one, Valdes could be brought in to provide competition for the German international, though it remains to be seen if he will be happy to move somewhere where he is not first choice.
