Everton are set to launch a massive £18m bid for Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku as Roberto Martinez looks to break the Toffees transfer record in order to land the Belgian according to the Daily Express.

The summer arrival of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba looks to have all but ended the 21 year old’s chances of featuring in Jose Mourinho’s first team set-up next season and Lukaku may well prefer a permanent Stamford Bridge exit over a third successive season out on loan.
Lukaku netted 15 goals during his loan spell at Goodison Park last term and though those goals narrowly failed to secure Champions League football it’s fair to say that Everton under Martinez are a side on an upward curve.
Mourinho has shown in recent transfer windows his willingness to cash in on players he deems surplus to requirements and having spent heavily this summer it’s plausible that a bid of this magnitude will be considered by the west London side.
Chelsea have already banked around £50m from the sale of David Luiz whilst the departures of big earners Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard will have also reduced the club’s wage-bill.
