Everton head of recruitment Ian Atkins believes Romelu Lukaku wants to seal a permanent move to the club from Chelsea, he told talkSPORT.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, impressing greatly after also catching the eye during a temporary spell with West Bromwich Albion the season before.

Still, Lukaku has been unable to win over Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and edge into his first-team plans, with the Blues making two major signings upfront this summer in Diego Costa and Didier Drogba.

This has only strengthened the Belgian youngster’s desire to leave Stamford Bridge, and although he has been linked with a host of top clubs, including Juventus and Real Madrid, Everton believe they may be in a good position to win the race for his signature, as the player wants to make a permanent move to Merseyside.

The talented striker scored 16 goals for the Toffees last season, and would represent a major addition for the club as they look to continue building and aim to break into the Premier League top four.

Atkins is confident of sealing a deal for the player, and is excited about the potential he can bring to the club, saying: “Romelu had a terrific season for Everton last year and I know everyone at the football club wants to see him back.

“Hopefully things can be sorted out, I think he’s quite settled in his mind that he wants to come to Everton, and hopefully he’ll be pulling on our blue shirt again next term.”
