Liverpool appear to be working hard to find alternatives after their move for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy fell through due to fitness concerns, with the Express reporting that the Reds are now turning their attentions on an audacious move for £18m forward Ezequiel Lavezzi from Paris Saint Germain.

The Ligue 1 side are keen to continue their huge summer spending, with a move for Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria set to follow their £50m deal for defender David Luiz from Chelsea, meaning that players are likely to have to leave the Parc des Princes if Laurent Blanc’s side are to meet financial fair play regulations.

One man who could become available is Lavezzi, who has played something of a third fiddle role behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani of late.

With no more movement on a prospective exit for Uruguayan star Cavani, it could be the Argentinian international who is moved on to make way for his international teammate di Maria.

With Remy now off the table, Liverpool will be aware that they still need at least one forward if they are to adequately replace Luis Suarez – and Lavezzi may fit the bill, particularly if he can refind the form that he had for Napoli in Serie A.
