The Reds are close to sealing a £10m swoop for the Belgium starlet, who shone for his country at the World Cup in Brazil – notably scoring a late winner in a group stage victory over Russia.

However, it is thought that part of the deal involves Origi staying with Lille for another season was a key clause in helping push the deal through.

And though Reds fans would have to wait another season before getting to see the Belgian international in action, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet believes that he has all the necessary ingredients to be a success in the Premier League.

“He did really well for Belgium,” said Mignolet.

“We didn’t know that much about him but he came in and showed something to the outside world.

“He’s definitely got ability. He’s strong and quick, he’s got skill, he can score a goal as well, so he’s got all the qualities you need to become a top striker in the Premier League.”

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is still keen on finding a new striker to replace Luis suarez, though, having called off a move for Queens Park Rangers star Loic Remy at the weekend.
