The player’s former club, Borussia Dortmund, are apparently keen to bring the fan favourite back to the club as he continues to struggle to break into the United first team.

The 25-year-old made a huge impression in the Bundesliga, where he became one of the most in form playmakers in Europe, and even turned down a move to Real Madrid in order to link up with United, though he has failed to hit top form during his time with the Red Devils.

There are question marks hanging over the futures of five United stars, including Marouane Fellaini and Nani, and though Van Gaal has promised his newly inherited stars that they will have four weeks to save their Old Trafford careers he is said to be increasingly open to allowing Kagawa the chance to resurrect his career back in Germany.
