Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has handed in a transfer request, putting interested parties Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur on alert, reports Sky Sports.

A lot has happened in the past 24 hours, with Saints chairman Ralph Krueger insisting on Tuesday that neither Schneiderlin or Jay Rodriguez will be sold this summer.

“Jay Rodriguez and and Morgan Schneiderlin are not for sale, and they will be a part of our club as we enter the new season,” Krueger was quoted by the club’s website.

Yet after these comments the Frenchman took to Twitter to respond and it seems as though the 24-year-old was not at all happy with the decision.

Schneiderlin signed a new four-year deal on the south coast in 2013, at which time Goal reports that the club said if a big side came in for him they would sell.

Therefore the fact the France international is now upset with this decision, with the Gunners and Spurs known admirers of his ability, is understandable.

Currently Tottenham are said to be leading the race with Schneiderlin’s former manager Mauricio Pochettino a significant lure to head to White Hart Lane.

If the midfield ace were to leave he would be the sixth significant departure this summer, with Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren all having joined Liverpool, Luke Shaw being acquired by Manchester United and Calum Chambers heading to the Emirates Stadium.
