Atletico Madrid are very close to signing PSV’s Belgian wonderkid Zakkaria Bakkali, reports Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
The wonderkid shot to prominence last season, bagging a hat-trick on the opening day of the season, despite being aged just 17 at the time.
This got the football world talking, and huge clubs around Europe, including Liverpool, were consistently linked with his services throughout the course of the 2013/14 campaign.
Diego Simeone’s men have also secured Antoine Griezmann this summer, who was also continuously linked to Liverpool.
Bakkali had a contract offer on the table from PSV, but that was withdrawn yesterday, and it looks as though the teenager will be moving to the Spanish champions imminently.
Atletico are set to pay between €2m and €3m for his services, which seems like a huge bargain considering the size of Bakkali’s talent.
Since his hat-trick, the winger’s contract dispute meant he didn’t feature as much as expected in the Eredivisie – and he’ll be keen to hit the ground running in Madrid, although he’ll have to compete with the likes of Griezmann and Arda Turan for a starting spot.
