Done Deal: Everton Sign Chelsea Forward Romelu Lukaku In £28m Club Record Deal

Goodison Park side complete signing of Stamford Bridge youngster.

Everton have officially confirmed the signing of Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku.

Jose Mourinho has not seemingly been convinced by Lukaku’s performances during his spells away from Stamford Bridge and the summer captures of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba have all but ended the former Anderlecht’s spell at the west London outfit.

Lukaku netted 15 goals in 29 Premier League starts for the Toffees last term and having brought in Gareth Barry, another talent who impressed on loan in 2013/14, Martinez has apparently won the race to capture the young marksman.

The £28m fee smashes Everton’s previous record transfer, which came in the form of the £15m spent on fellow Belgian Marouane Fellaini back in 2008.

Mourinho has done well to cash-in on players he doesn’t deem as worthy of a regular spot in his first team set-up, picking up £50m from the sale of David Luiz to PSG and £37m from the same of Juan Mata to Chelsea in the last two transfer windows.

On completing the move Lukaku is quoted as stating;

“I am really excited about rejoining Everton. I had a fantastic experience last season and a great relationship with the manager, the chairman, the staff, the players and the fans. I can’t wait to get started again and I’m looking forward to a successful season.”

Chairman Bill Kenwright added:

“Romelu was a massive part of the jigsaw for Roberto and Everton and nobody is more pleased than me that an 11-month quest ended at lunchtime today, thanks hugely to the efforts of all parties, including Rom, his representative, Chelsea and, of course, Roberto.”
