It can be heartbreaking for a football supporter when their favourite player moves elsewhere, especially if they have shelled out £50 for a replica jersey with his name and number on the back.

Some fans take it badly, binning or even burning their expensive kit, while others simply choose to banish it to the bottom of the wardrobe.

However, there is another option – as shown by this crafty Liverpool fan in the picture below.

He didn’t despair when Fernando Torres left Anfield and switched allegiances to Chelsea.

Instead, he used a bit of sticky tape to replace Torres’ name with the Reds’ new number nine.

Rickie Lambert, a summer signing from Southampton, will wear the famous 9 on his back this season.

Since Torres left, Andy Carroll and Iago Aspas have had the honour.
