Manchester United are set to sign Oscar Borg from West Ham United, according to reports from the Brentwood Gazette, with the teenager having been dubbed ‘the new Gareth Bale’ due to his style of play, which is similar to that of the Welshman.

The 16 year-old has rejected the offer of professional terms at Upton Park, opting instead to spend a short period on time with United, that saw him turn out for the club in the renowned youth tournament, the Milk Cup, in Northern Ireland.

Borg’s performances for the Hammers’ Under 16 sides last season saw him called up to both the U18 and U21 squads, but it appears as though Sam Allardyce will never get to enjoy the fruits of the club’s labour.

United are expected to pay a fee of around £250,000 for the teenager, which could prove to be a hugely shrewd investment if he is able to fulfill the massive potential that he began to show in the youth teams at West Ham.

The comparisons with Bale come from Borg’s ability to play as either a left winger or a left back, his electric pace that is able to take him past a man with ease and his fine shooting ability with that left foot.
