Atletico chief prefers Griezmann to Rodriguez.Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has aimed a dig at Real Madrid’s latest big-money signing James Rodriguez, Marca reports.
The Spanish champions have themselves just completed an exciting signing in Antoine Griezmann, who arrived at the Vicente Calderon after a superb season for Real Sociedad, and Cerezo believes the French winger will prove to be one of the signings of the summer.
The 23-year-old scored 20 goals from the flanks last season to attract interest from a whole host of top clubs around Europe, and Atletico’s president believes his signing is comparable to that of Luis Suarez’s move from Liverpool to Barcelona, while Rodriguez is not in the same category.
Although the Colombian star arrives at the Bernabeu on the back of a superb showing at this summer’s World Cup, as well as a strong season at AS Monaco last year, Cerezo believes he is not quite the same calibre of player as Griezmann or Suarez, as he has not yet enjoyed as successful a career as the other two.
Real are known for being somewhat overzealous in their spending at times, and the president of their rivals appears to be hinting that they may have been so again with the purchase of Rodriguez.
