Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been on the look out for a new forward following Suarez’s £75m departure to Barcelona last month.

And earlier this week Rodgers pulled the plug on an £8m deal to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy without giving any official explanation for why the deal was put on ice.

Claims have been made that Remy failed the medical with the side, though it is not clear why, and Rodgers confirmed that he may very well end up waiting until January to sign a new front man.

But former striker John Aldridge is hoping that Rodgers will spring for Monaco’s Radamel Falcao to fill the void left by Suarez.

“I thought Remy for £8.5m was a very shrewd buy but it’s fallen through for whatever reason, so Liverpool do need another striker in my opinion should something happen,” he said.

“Who is out there? Falcao, they’re saying he had a horrendous season last year.

“He was a bit part of the player he was last season. If he can get back to where he was the previous season then he would be one wouldn’t he?”

The 28-year-old missed Colombia’s World Cup campaign through injury, but he is still being billed as one of the most in demand strikers in world football.
