Liverpool To Edge Over £100m Spending Mark With Double Spanish Deal

Liverpool close in on double deal to bring defenders to Anfield.

Liverpool are closing in on the signings for Spanish full backs Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo, from Sevilla FC and Atletico Madrid respectively, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Manquillo is the more imminent announcement, with Reds chief executive Ian Ayre having flown to Madrid to conclude a loan deal for the duration of the coming season.

The 20 year-old will provide competition to Glen Johnson, Jon Flanagan and Martin Kelly at right back, with Atleti hoping to see him receive valuable first team action.

Moreno has been chased by Liverpool for a number of months now, with a £16m offer rejected in May, but Brendan Rodgers is running out of options for a left back.

Earlier this transfer window, previous Reds targets Ben Davies moved to Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand has just signed for Southampton on loan.

With Sevilla holding out for over £20m for Moreno’s signature, Liverpool may be forced to come up with the full asking price to land their top target.

That would in turn send their gross summer spending over the £100m mark – although that is of course beset by the colossal fee received from FC Barcelona for Luis Suarez.
