Manchester United look set to start the 2014/15 campaign with Antonio Valencia and Rafael as the right wing-back options in Louis van Gaal’s favoured 3-5-2 formation.

Both the South Americans are no longer the players they were under Sir Alex Ferguson, and we reckon the Red Devils could do worse than targeting one of these five stars to come in take the role for himself.

5) Juanfran – Atletico Madrid

The Spaniard is currently in his prime aged 29, and played a crucial role in winning Atletico La Liga last term. He’s defensively uncompromising, but offers a consistent offensive presence up the right flank as well. He’s physically strong, rarely shies away from a challenge, and is accustomed to playing a passing brand of football, where he can play the ball neatly into midfield rather than punting it long. Atletico are notorious for selling their better players, and United could do far worse than snaring the right-back.
