Sunderland are reportedly chasing former Chelsea forward Samuel Eto’o according to the Metro.

The 33 year old had been linked with a surprise switch to West Ham but the East London side were unwilling to meet the veteran’s £120k a week wage demands.

Eto’o had a fairly decent season at Chelsea in 2013/14, netting 12 goals in 35 appearances with nine of those from the bench, and could be open to a move to remain in the English top tier.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has been looking to bring in Italian Fabio Borini on a permanent deal after his loan spell at the club, but that deal has fallen through and as such the Uruguayan is looking at viable alternatives to boost his front-line.

Samuel Eto’o is sure to have a fair few offers on the table and a move to Sunderland doesn’t seem all that likely and one wonders if the Black Cats are able to match his salary expectations in any case.

Tottenham are also said to be keen and given that the White Hart Lane side have Europa League action to offer one might feel that such a switch is far more plausible for the one time Barcelona and Inter Milan star.
