Liverpool are reportedly leading the chase to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus according to the Metro.

The 25 year old has been strongly linked with a Westfalenstadion exit after details about his new release clause were apparently leaked.

The German international has rejected a new contract with the Bundesliga side and can be purchased for a fee as little as £19.8m next summer, a move that Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to make.

Though Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all said to be keen a move to Liverpool is said to be the most likely, perhaps due to the sheer weight of numbers in the positions Reus adopts in those three European outfits, and a move to Merseyside could well come to fruition next year.

Reus has proven hugely successful since his move from Borussia Monchengladbach but his Dortmund side have fallen way off the domestic title race and the summer departure of top-scorer Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich may well lead to some of Jurgen Klopp’s side questioning their sides ambitions.

Liverpool could well do with a further ‘Marquee’ signing though Rodgers has certainly brought in a fair few top talents with the use of funds accrued from the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
