Arsenal have set their sights on the signing of want-away Shakhtar Donetsk winger Douglas Costa after appearing to miss out on Porto starlet Juan Fernando Quintero, according to the Daily Express.

The Brazilian attacker looks likely to be available this summer after recently going AWOL from Shakhtar’s squad after a friendly against Ligue 1 side Lyon in France, as he and several other of his team-mates failed to return to the squad as they prepared to return to the Ukraine.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is seemingly intent on signing further attacking midfielders this summer, having been recently linked with a move for highly-rated Porto youngster Quintero, though his £32m asking price has proven too much for the Gunners.

Costa may be available for a reduced fee after his recent antics, and Wenger is seemingly a big fan of the player’s talents despite this showing of unprofessional behaviour.

It has also been suggested that the 23-year-old could join the north London side on a season-long loan, which may also represent another smart piece of business for Arsenal in the transfer market.

Wenger has signed four new players so far this summer, with Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina moving to the Emirates Stadium.
