Emirates Stadium side start season without World Cup winning talents.

Check in to Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has today confirmed that he will be without a trio of German talents as his side prepares for the start of the upcoming Premier League season.

The north London side take on Man City in the Community Shield this weekend and then take on Crystal Palace in their opening Premier League fixture on Saturday 16th August.

It’s a fixture that World Cup winners Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker will apparently miss with Wenger stating they would miss the start of the season.

On the subject of their return to the first team set-up Wenger stated;

“It’s not ideal but the final of the World Cup was on July 13 and when they went back to Germany, they lost a few days for celebrations,” said Wenger.

“They played seven games at the World Cup [in addition to] the whole English season. Having the experience of a team that has won the World Cup [always] makes it difficult mentally to come back and be sharp and hungry straight away again.

“You have the choice – you get them back very quickly and you lose them in October, or you give them a needed rest to build them up again.

“They have an individual programme that they follow so they could be very quick.”
