Southampton are lining up an improved bid for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo according to the Daily Express.

St Mary’s boss Ronaldo Koeman has seen a mass exodus of top talents in recent weeks and will be keen to redress the balance with much needed summer signings and a move for 24 year old Argentine international Rojo will certainly improve his Saints defence.

The south-coast side already failed with an £11m bid for the adaptable defender but will now return with a £13m offer for the World Cup star.

Rojo can play at left-back, where could replace Luke Shaw, or at centre-back where he may well act as a decent replacement for Dejan Lovren.

Sporting Lisbon signed Rojo from Spartak Moscow in the summer of 2012 and he performed wonderfully well last term to help the Estádio José Alvalade side to a second place finish which has earned the Portuguese side a return to the Champions League.

As well as having to replace the aforementioned Shaw and Lovren Koeman will have to also look to make up for the loss of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Calum Chambers.
