The Dane is one of the most promising players at the Dutch club and, although his contract runs until June 2017, he is expected to be one of the next high-profile departures.

Spurs scouts eyed up the younger Dane in several games towards the end of the 2013/14 campaign too, and the 20-year-old is now thought to be one of the north London outfit’s long term targets.

Tottenham and Ajax have been in regular contact over the past few seasons with Spurs signing Jan Vertonghen in 2012 and returning last summer to sign Fischer’s compatriot, Eriksen. Both players adapted well to life at White Hart Lane and Vertonghen was even offered an extension to his contract last week.

However, relations between the two sides became frosty earlier this year when Ajax boss Ronald de Boer emerged as one of the favourites to take over from Tim Sherwood in the managerial hot seat.
