The 24-year-old ace has struggled to settle in the Italian top flight since arriving in 2012, and has subsequently spent time on-loan with Gremio and Valencia.

And after showing his abilities at this summer’s World Cup with Chile he is now hoping to push through a big money move elsewhere before the summer transfer window draws to a close.

The Gunners are reportedly one of the clubs keen to land his signature, though they may have to act quickly as La Liga giants Valencia are already in talks to prize him away from the San Paolo, though Arsene Wenger is hoping Alexis Sanchez can play his part in bringing him to London having originally recommended him to his new boss.

A quick, skilful and agile striker, Vargas can also play on the wing and is famed for his hunger and work rate.

It is thought that it will take an initial bid of £10m to snap him up, though any deal will likely include add ons that will eventually drive the fee up.
