Borussia Dortmund have made it perfectly clear that star player Marco Reus, a rumoured target for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, is not for sale, according to the Metro.

The German international has been one of the most talked about players in this summer’s transfer window, with a host of top clubs around Europe thought to be desperate to snap him up for a cut-price fee.

It is thought that Reus may be available for just £19.8m due to a clause in his contract, and Arsenal are among those leading the chase for his signature at the moment.

However, Dortmund insist that the 25-year-old is a big part of their future and important for his influence off the pitch as well as on it, describing the player as a ‘poster boy’ for the club.

Sporting director Michael Zorc said that they hope Reus will stay with the club for a long time.

“[We will] definitely try to keep him long term,” he said.

“Marco is not only a hugely important player for us because of his athletic performance, but also in his role as a poster boy.

“He is Dortmund-born and a figurehead for this club.”

Chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke added: “We have said many times this summer that Reus will not leave.

“Marco will play with us next season. ‘There is no possibility that he will play elsewhere.

“We will try to tie him to our club for longer and we are proceeding with peace of mind that he will renew his deal.”

Reus has scored 42 goals in 90 appearances for Dortmund since joining the club from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2012. He also has 21 caps and 7 goals for the German national side, though he was absent through injury as Joachim Low’s side claimed victory in this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
