Baines is happy at Everton.

Everton left-back Leighton Baines has admitted that he’s glad he didn’t join Manchester United, with the 13-time Premier League champions showing great interest in him over the past 12 months.

Ex-Red Devils manager David Moyes tried to sign his former Toffees star twice during his 10-month reign at Old Trafford, but the England international has revealed he made the right choice in staying.

Baines signed a new four-year contract at Goodison Park at the end of January to end any speculation surrounding his departure.

“I signed following that summer of the whole United thing, but that was in their minds back then in terms of how to change the status and perception so we can keep hold of players when other clubs come calling,” the 29-year-old told the Liverpool Echo.

“Since that with me, a few of the other lads have been talked about as going by the media but in all fairness none of them have been the slightest bit interested in playing anywhere else.”

Baines is considered to be among the best defenders in the English top tier for his form for the Merseysiders and it’s clear the Englishman wants to help Roberto Martinez’s men to new heights.

United meanwhile instead turned their attention to Luke Shaw for defensive support and signed the 19-year-old from Southampton this summer for £27m.
