Liverpool are seemingly set to make an offer for a ‘big-name’ player according to BBC reporter Tim Vickery.

The Metro reports on comments made by the South American football expert related to Brendan Rodgers’ search for a viable replacement for Luis Suarez, who left to join Barcelona in a £75m deal earlier this summer.

Vickery states;

‘I don’t normally usually have many contacts with agents and the like, but I got phoned up yesterday with apparently good news for Liverpool,’

Liverpool ‘will sign big name to replace Suarez’

‘It’s not Falcao, but it’s a big-name player replacing a big name player at Liverpool, which would obviously be Suarez, being lined up very soon.

‘I couldn’t find out anything more than that but I don’t think it’s Falcao. It wouldn’t be viable for them.’

Liverpool had attempted to bring in QPR’s Loic Remy but that move collapses over an apparent failed medical and one may hazard a guess as to the identity of the player concerned as being PSG’s Edinson Cavani. This assumption is indeed made by this source, again not wholly unsurprising given that Vickery is a South American expert and the Merseyside outfit have been linked with the Uruguayan a fair bit of late.

Suarez will be a very hard player to replace with the former Liverpool man finishing last term as the Premier League’s top scorer by some distance and was also one of the English top tier’s leading assist makers to boot.
