The two giants join Arsenal and Everton in their interest and they have all been linked with the 19-year-old, who starred while on loan at Rayo Vallecano last season.

Whilst at Rayo, he made 34 league appearances, and his form prompted Atletico officials to earmark him as a first-team player for the 2014/15 campaign.

However, when Tiago’s surprise return to Chelsea collapsed, the youngster is likely to be the club’s fourth choice midfielder behind the likes of the Portuguese veteran, Gabi and Mario Suarez in the central midfield pecking order.

And subsequently the La Liga champions are now considering loaning him out again with Benfica thought to be leading the charge to snap him up on a short term deal.

However, there is still time for one of the aforementioned Premier League sides to make their own move and add him to the ranks for the upcoming season.

Saul still has four years remaining on his contract at the Vicente Calderon, and is valued at around £6.5m.
