The England international is one of a number of player Mauricio Pochettino is looking to cash-in on, the most prominent of which being Spaniard Roberto Soldado, but it remains to be seen if Harry Redknapp is willing to register such a bid for the 23 year old.

Townsend had an up and down time of it last term during which at one point the winger was in red hot form, impressing for both club and country, before poor form and fitness issues led to a spell out of the starting eleven.

Pochettino has set his sights on Dutch youngster Memphis Depay and therefore could do with offloading Townsend to make room for the PSV Eindhoven man.

Townsend spent a successful spell on loan at QPR in 2012/13 and could feel the chance of a new move could revive his career and it was indeed Redknapp who handed the Londoner his Spurs debut back in January 2011.
