Arsenal are looking to complete the signing of Man United winger Nani by early next week as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his attack amid rumours that the north London club are set to offload Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla.

CaughtOffside understands that Wenger had been in talks to sign the 27 year old Portuguese international earlier in the summer but Man United had attempted to use the wide-man as part of a swap deal as Louis van Gaal pursued Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgian defender has subsequently opted to join Barcelona and Wenger will look to re-invest the £15m from the sale by meeting Man United’s asking price for Nani.

Louis van Gaal is keen to conduct a major clear-out before the transer window slams shut and has now had a good chance to run the rule over his squad and Nani is one of a number set for a Man United exit.

Nani has struggled to make an impact in the Man United started eleven for the past couple of seasons but is undoubtedly a talented player and a move to the Emirates Stadium is thought to interest the former Sporting Lisbon man.

Having initially struggled to emerge from the shadow of compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo Nani put in a superb run of form in the 2010/11 season, finishing the title winning campaign as the Premier League’s leading assist maker but things have gone downhill ever since.

Nani is being pursued by a number of Serie A sides as well as Ligue 1 big spenders AS Monaco but is said to be settled in the UK and open to a move to north London.

There is growing speculation that German international Lukas Podolski is on his way out with moves to both Sevilla, and more recently, Galatasary mooted

Pint sized Spaniard Santi Cazorla could also be on his way out after a fairly average second campaign at the club, with La Liga title holders Atletico Madrid and said to be interested in the 29 year old winger.

Arsenal are ready to hand Nani a three year contract and a salary in excess of his current £95k a week deal.

Nani has made 227 appearances for Man United, netting 40 goals in the process and collecting a host of honours including four Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph.
