Manchester City and France midfielder Samir Nasri has never been averse to making the occasional controversial statement in the media, with the Mirror now reporting that the former Arsenal man has called Gunners fans “stupid” for abusing him over his move to Eastlands.

Nasri left the Emirates Stadium in 2011 to join Manchester City, then just emerging as a power in the Premier League, with many Arsenal fans annoyed at the Frenchman and former teammate Emmanuel Adebayor, who also made the move North, for following what they believed were the pounds on offer in Manchester.

Midfielder Nasri rejects this, however, claiming that his move to City was merely motivated by the desire to win medals, something that will be backed up by the success that he has enjoyed since the move, with two Premier League titles to his name.

Nasri doesn’t understand the abuse that he is given by Gunners fans when the two clubs meet, as he isn’t from the local area nor is he a fan of the club:

“I just think the abuse I get is stupid. I’m not an Arsenal fan, I am not from London.”

“To be honest we are players and we are just looking at what are the best interests for us and our careers.”

Nasri’s comments are sure to stoke the fire ahead of the latest meeting between the club, Sunday afternoon’s Community Shield at Wembley, a game which Nasri may well start against the Gunners.
