After beating Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield on Sunday Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere says his team can go onto win the Premier League in 2014/15.

It was a dominant performance from the Gunners who after a nine-year silverware drought have now won two trophies in 85 days after lifting the FA Cup at the end of last season.

Wilshere believes this is a sign of things to come from his team.

“The message we wanted to send out was ‘we’re ready’. It is the biggest game of pre-season and we passed the test,” the 22-year-old was quoted by the Sun.

“Just because we beat the champions doesn’t mean we will be champions because it doesn’t work like that. But we are ready.

“We have got a great team ethic here and I hope we can take that into the season.”

Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud were on target for the North Londoners as City were brushed aside in a result that led Manuel Pellegrini to declare his side are not yet ready to defend their title.

The Chilean’s opposite number Arsene Wenger meanwhile probably can’t wait for the new campaign to start with his team looking in great form.
