Brendan Rodgers is known to be on the hunt for a left back, having seemingly began the summer on the trail of Moreno before a deal collapse, then returning to the Spaniard after no clear alternative to the Sevilla man emerged.

Moreno is due to star for Sevilla during Tuesday evening’s European Super Cup clash with Real Madrid in Cardiff, but reports suggesting that a move to Anfield would be sealed following this match are wide of the mark, according to Jose Castro:

“There have been negotiations, eight or 10 days ago, but there has been no agreement and nor is there today.”

This news will come as a blow to Liverpool fans, who were hoping that Moreno’s imminent arrival would shore up one of few problem positions in the Reds’ team following a busy summer of action in the transfer market for Rodgers, who has already strengthened other areas of his defence with the signings of Dejan Lovren and Javier Manquillo.
