Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has discussed the chances of his star right winger Gareth Bale ever being awarded the Ballon D’or, ahead of Tuesday evening’s Super Cup Final versus Sevilla, the Daily Mail reports.

His other star player Cristiano Ronaldo won the award in 2013, but Ancelotti has dramatically claimed that Welsh wing wizard Bale, is in fact, ‘the best’, although he later seems to retract this statement and put Bale in the same category as Ronaldo and Spanish centre-back Sergio Ramos.

“As I said a lot of the time last year, he [Bale] is the best,” began the Italian manager.

“He is one of the best players in the world now, but I’m not so interested in whether Gareth can be nominated and go on to win it [the Ballon D’or],” Ancelotti said.

“What is important is that Gareth is here to help the win titles.

“But if I say Gareth deserves to win it, then I could say Ramos, or Ronaldo also deserves to win it.”

Both Bale and Ronaldo scored in the Champions League final last term, which qualified Real Madrid for the Super Cup Final which will played in Bale’s home country of Wales.

Bale’s first season following his £85m transfer was somewhat blighted by injuries, but it ended in success, with a European title and 22 goals in just 44 matches in all competitions. Ronaldo though was on a different level entirely, bagging 51 altogether, taking his Real Madrid career total to 252 in 246 matches.

It will be interesting to see, following Ancelotti’s comments, which superstar will come out on top of the inter-club individual battle during the 2014/15 campaign…
