Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is set to continue his attempts to rebuild the Saints’ squad, following a number of high profile summer departure, with the Mail reporting that they are set to secure a £6 million deal to sign centre back Florin Gardos from Steaua Bucharest.

Gardos will be the replacement for Dejan Lovren, the Croatian international central defender who was sold to Liverpool for £20m after spending just one season at St. Mary’s following his arrival from Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyonnais.

He will become Koeman’s fourth significant summer signing since he took over from Mauricio Pochettino, who departed for Tottenham Hotspur, with winger Dusan Tadic, striker Graziano Pelle and goalkeeper Fraser Forster having been brought in by the Saints already this summer.

Koeman is still expected to be busy between now and the end of the transfer window, with Southampton having allowed a significant number of important first team players to have moved on already this summer.

He saw a £4.5m bid for young right back Leeds Byram rejected by Leeds United over the weekend, whilst the Saints are also being linked in this report with a move for Bosnia & Herzegovina international left back Senad Lulic.
