Everton and West Ham are also tracking the Cameroon international, who spent last season at Chelsea, though the veteran’s wage demands may prove something of an obstacle.

Eto’o is seemingly interested in a move to Anfield but has demanded a basic salary of £135k a week with Liverpool countering with a lower wage that would include performance related add-ons.

Having seen his side’s move for QPR’s Loic Remy fall through Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring in a proven goal-scorer to offer support to Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert.

Eto’o netted 12 goals in all competitions for the Blues last term and is a player with a real pedigree though clearly he isn’t the player he once was.

Samuel Eto’o netted 129 goals in his five season spell at Barcelona and racked up 53 goals during his two seasons at Inter Milan and is a three time Champions League winner.

Brendan Rodgers has however agreed a deal with Sevilla for left-back Alberto Moreno worth an initial £12m which coul rise to £16m.
