Blind moves ever closer to an Old Trafford switch.

Ajax and Manchester United have had a breakthrough in negotiations for the signing of £20m versatility man Daley Blind, reports the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils have had their eye on the 24-year-old for some time with new manager Louis van Gaal knowing the player well from the time they spent together with the Netherlands national team.

Van Gaal is keen to sign some defensive recruitment this summer following the departure of veterans Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, whilst Luke Shaw has been the only new addition at the back.

Blind would be a very useful acquisition as well due to his ability to play in a variety of positions, with the Dutchman operating at left-back, in central defence and defensive midfield.

Frank de Boer – head coach of the Eredivisie champions – has also admitted that the Netherlands international deserves a move to a big club, but has urged him to stay at the Amsterdam ArenA for at least one more year.

However, Blind himself has revealed that if an offer comes in he would have to consider it and the defensive ace is sure to be tempted by the opportunity for a reunion with van Gaal at Old Trafford.

United are also hoping to sign Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1.
