Liverpool have been handed a boost with the news that £25m summer signing, midfielder Adam Lallana, is ahead of schedule in his bid to return to full fitness.
Reports in the Daily Mail suggest that the 26-year-old England International, who joined the club from Southampton last month, was put to the test by Brendan Rodgers in training on Thursday, and came through the session unscathed.
Lallana was told he faced up to six weeks out when he sustained a knee injury in Boston in late July, but the player showed encouraging signs as he trained with his teammates ahead of the Reds’ Premier League opener against the Saints on Sunday.
Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren, who like Lallana moved from Southampton to Liverpool this summer, are likely to make their club debut’s against their former club this weekend, while the match may come too soon for the South Coast club’s former captain.
The Anfield faithful will also be hoping to catch their first glimpse of Lazar Markovic, Emre Can and Javier Manquillo in Premier League action – while any deal for Sevilla full-back Alberto Moreno looks likely to have to wait until after the club’s opening game.
