Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani but may only be able to sign him if the Ligue 1 club sign Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid, according to the Metro.

The Gunners are known to be in the market for new signings upfront, with Arsene Wenger relying solely on Olivier Giroud in that position for so much of last season.

Alexis Sanchez has already been brought in from Barcelona for £35m, and can operate as a striker if needed, though it seems that Wenger wants Cavani as an out-and-out centre-forward to come in as an upgrade on Giroud.

Still, PSG will only consider selling the Uruguayan international if they can get their hands on Di Maria, who has been linked with the club several times this summer, though they recently claimed he was too expensive.

This has alerted interest from Manchester United in the Argentine winger, though it seems PSG still hope to strike some kind of a deal before the end of the transfer window.

However, United will now be able to deal a double blow to Arsenal if they can secure the signing of a top class talent and also prevent the Gunners from signing one themselves.
