Reported Liverpool striker target Samuel Eto’o could yet be lured abroad, rather than to Anfield, with respect journalist Tancredi Palmeri suggesting that the Cameroonian striker has been offered a better wage packet by Eredivise outfit Ajax than he has by the Reds.

Reports had broken the other day that linked former Chelsea and Inter Milan striker Eto’o with a move to join Brendan Rodgers at Anfield, after Liverpool had failed to secure deals for any of their preferred striking targets to help replace Luis Suarez this summer.

Eto’o had a respectable goalscoring record in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge last season, but his relationship with manager Jose Mourinho deteriorated after the Portuguese was caught making derogatory comments about Eto’o’s age on camera.

One of Europe’s most prolific forwards of his generation, Eto’o has helped both Barcelona and Inter Milan to Champions League titles, after arriving at the Nou Camp from Real Mallorca, whilst he also spent time playing in Russia with Anzhi Machackala.

Liverpool have already seen a deal for Queens Park Rangers’ French striker Loic Remy fall through this summer, as they look to secure more help in replacing the Barcelona-bound Luis Suarez, their top scorer last season.
