Liverpool are set to offer wonderkid winger Raheem Sterling a new deal with £120,000 per week, report the Mirror, as the Reds look to put an end to interest in the player from European champions Real Madrid.

Sterling signed a new deal at Anfield worth £30k per week less than 18 months ago, but his rise to prominence since then means that Anfield chiefs are keen to reward him for his fine performances and also ensure that his stay at the club is extended beyond 2017, when his current deal is due to expire.

Real Madrid were linked with a move for Sterling earlier on in the summer, highlighting the necessity for Liverpool to ensure that a new deal for a player who is perhaps the Premier League’s most exciting youngster is tied up sooner rather than later.

The 19 year-old enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season in 2013/14, becoming a key part of the Liverpool side as Brendan Rodgers’ team narrowly missed out on a first English league title for more than two decades.

With top scorer Luis Suarez having departed to Barcelona, however, Sterling will be one of a number of players who is expected to step up and enhance his reputation even further during 2014/15.
