According to the respected Catalan newspaper Sport, the Reds have made an offer for Song, who has been told he can leave Barca this summer.

The paper clipping claims that an offer from the Reds is likely to be accepted imminently, though Turkish giants Galatasaray have also made their own bid, but a switch to Anfield does seem like the more likely outcome.

Song has struggled to land a regular spot in Barca’s first team since arriving from Arsenal in 2012, and is used mostly against smaller sides in La Liga and in Europe.

His performances for a lacklustre Cameroon at the World Cup, which saw him get sent off against Croatia, were thought to have counted against him, but reports in Spain have Brendan Rodgers’ men still keen on bringing him to the club.

No fee has been mentioned, but it’s thought that Liverpool would be paying about £8million for the player.
