The Reds kick off their Premier League campaign against the Saints on Saturday after poaching Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren from them over the course of the summer.
Lambert cannot wait to get the new season underway, but having spent five years at St Mary’s, and scoring 117 goals in 235 appearances, he admitted that it feels like his destiny to begin this exciting new chapter against them.
“I just laughed when I heard, I couldn’t believe it. It was always going to be, wasn’t it?” he said.
“I said before it was going to be Southampton. I said it was going to be at Saint Mary’s but instead it’s at Anfield.”
