Serie A runners-up AS Roma are targeting Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic on a season-long loan deal, report the Mirror, despite the fact that the Montenegro international has been in fine form during City’s pre-season preparations.

He struggled for opportunities last season, however, with Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero all receiving far more game time than the former Fiorentina man, although he did also miss a short period with injury.

Roma are looking to bring him back to Serie A, the league in which he made his name with Viola, reportedly a season-long loan deal for Jovetic that could also see the player join for a £20 million fee if he impresses during a year at the Stadio Olimpico.

Manager Rudi Garcia is hoping to significantly strengthen his squad to maintain a genuine challenge to Juventus, who have won the Serie A title on three consecutive occasions, whilst also allowing Roma to impress on their return to the Champions League.

The likes of club legend Francesco Totti, former Arsenal forward Gervinho and prolific striker Mattia Destro are already options in attack for Garcia, but the Frenchman appears to be keen to add another string to his bow before the end of the transfer window.
