For Leeds, the last few seasons in the Championship have been a disappointing experience for Lilywhites fans. A 15th placed finish last season was a disappointing end, which saw its fair share of off field problems affecting matters on the pitch.
Neil Redfearn looked to be the perfect match for the Elland Road faithful, however his position remained untenable following unforseen off field problems with Chairman Massimo Cellino, and following his departure from the hot seat last May, Uwe Rosler has been brought in to steady the ship.
Chris Wood has been brought in for £3m but there appears to be a distinct lack of firepower at the club at the moment, with Rosler inheriting a young squad and will no doubt be hoping to improve Leeds tally of only 50 goals socred last season.
The arrival of a new Executive Director in the form of Adam Pearson may be a silver lining for a club craving some sort of stability, and with a wealth of young talent graduating from the Leeds Academy, now may be the right time for the Lilywhites to make a serious promotion challenge.
The arrival of Burnley, however will prove a tough opener.
Can Burnley recover from the loss of Danny Ings?
Sean Dyche’s side were relegated from the Premier League last season and of course it will be of utmost importance to bounce straight back up and not become another club spending season after season in the Championship doldrums.
Its clear that Dyche will definitely not let that happen however. The enigmatic manager has already lost Danny Ings to Liverpool, Jason Shackell to Derby and Kieran Tripper, but apart from those departures the squad of last season remains relatively intact.
Matthew Lowton has been brought in to replace the hole left at right back, while Clarets fans will be hoping that Jelle Vossen can fill the shoes of Danny Ings, which will no doubt be a tough act to follow.
Leeds United v Burnley FC Match Highlights
Dyche himself is proving himself to be one of England’s bright young managers and its par for the course that his side will put in a solid, workmanlike display at Elland Road.
It may simply be a battle of attrition with Burnley difficult to break down, but it should prove to be compulsive viewing.
