Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno.

The 22 year old becomes the Anfield side’s eighth signing of the summer and is said to have cost the club a fee of £12m according to the BBC.

Moreno is considered one of the hottest prospects in Spanish football and will challenge fellow countryman Jose Enrique for the left-back berth in Brendan Rodgers’ starting eleven.

On completing his move to Merseyside Moreno stated;

“In my view, Liverpool are the best club in England and I couldn’t waste an opportunity to come and play for them.

“I spoke with Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina and Alvaro Arbeloa and they told me this is a spectacular club whose fans follow it in a very special way.

“They all told me I can grow a lot here as a footballer as this is a massive club. I’m very happy to be joining a club as big as Liverpool. I hope to give my best and do all I can to help.”

Moreno is not eligible to take part in Liverpool’s opening Premier League fixture against Southampton.

Liverpool have already signed Southampton trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren as well as Benfica’s Lazar Markovic and Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can, with right-back Javier Manquillo joining on a two-season loan from Atletico Madrid.

Rodgers has also signed Belgium striker Divock Origi from Lille for £10m, but have allowed the teenager back to the Ligue 1 side for 2014/15.
