Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Louis van Gaal will offer €60m (£48m) for the Chilean attacking midfielder, who has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Some sources claim that the 27 year old has already agreed terms on a contract with the Premier League side and an offer of this magnitude, a club record for Man United, would surely be one the Serie A side considers, especially if the player has made it clear he wishes to leave.

Van Gaal will be looking to bring in more creativity to his midfield and Vidal is a player who offers a real threat in the final third and having won three successive Serie A titles the former Bayer Leverkusen man may be ready for a fresh challenge.

Vidal has scored 28 goals in 95 Serie A appearances and could be the right man to act as a much needed ‘Marquee’ capture this summer and given Man United’s opening day defeat to Swansea City one would imagine that such a move became all the more necessary.
