Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has suggested that his new £32m signing Diego Costa is better than the likes of Radamel Falcao and Sergio Aguero, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Blues brought in the Spanish international from Atletico Madrid this summer as one of a number of big-name signings to boost his squad, and the Portuguese coach feels he will add a mental toughness to his team as well as quality upfront.

Costa scored 36 goals in all competitions last season, and looks like being a major upgrade on the likes of Fernando Torres upfront, while other such as Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku have been sold to make way for the bulky centre-forward.

The 25-year-old is now expected to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League, and one capable of firing Chelsea to glory after a somewhat disappointing campaign last term.

Mourinho is clearly excited about what he can offer the team, and has hinted that he is better than Falcao and Aguero, who both kept him out of the side for many years at Atletico before he finally made his breakthrough last term.

The Chelsea manager is known for his mind games, and this will be seen as another dig at a rival player, with Aguero widely considered to be one of the best attacking players in the English top flight at the moment.

“He went to Atletico and Sergio Aguero was the superstar, so Diego went on loan. Then, they brought in Radamel Falcao – and Diego went out on loan. He was behind very important players,” Mourinho explained.

“When the chance came to go back, he showed he was better than the previous ones.”
