Manchester United could still make a move for world class Dutch playmaker Kevin Strootman from AS Roma, report the Express, as their hunt for Arturo Vidal continues to look as though it may end in frustration.

Strootman is still recovering from the serious knee injury that ruled him out of Louis van Gaal’s 2014 FIFA World Cup squad, and it had been believed that any move for the player would not be until January when he would be back playing, but it now appears as though United may look to oversee the final phase of his rehabilitation by signing him during the summer transfer window.

A classy ball-player, Strootman enjoyed a mesmeric first half of the season at the Stadio Olimpico after joining from PSV Eindhoven, with the injury that he picked up being a major factor in Rudi Garcia’s side’s inability to maintain their title challenge against the might of Juventus.

Van Gaal also saw him as the fulcrum of his Netherlands side before the injury, and is known to be a huge admirer of the central midfielder’s abilities.

The dismal nature of United’s performance in their 2-1 opening day defeat against Swansea City at Old Trafford may also have motivated van Gaal to rush into the transfer market quicker than he may have been expecting to.
